Earth Hour 2009 - Saturday; 8:30–9:30 March 28 2009

The Earth Poem by SK

We live in this planet called Earth
The third planet from the Sun
Home to millions of species and humans
The only place where life is known to exist

Can we imagine the age of our planet
As old as our grandparents or great grandparents?
Not 40 years,400 years but 4 billion years
Do we care enough or do we just ignore

Yes!Earth has become old and older
We all had taken for granted for all this life
Instead of good return we tend to destroy
As what we did to all our brothers and sisters

Earth is the greatest gift from God
In hope we all live in peace and harmony
Instead created scenes of pollution to global warming
Is that too much too ask after all the blessings?

If only Earth can speak
It will say STOP!
If only Earth can shout
It will say GET OUT!

Even if we can say we can live in Mars
It will not be as same as the Earth
No matter where we live in this Universe
We just ruin it again and again

There always saying "It is not too late"
Where is the way there is a will
In fact there are still humans whom concern
Still fight for the rights of our Earth

Let us open our eyes
Let us open our ears
Let us open our heart
Let makes Earth a better place for you and for me!

Hey y'll, this programme or event has really captured my heart (the ads especially, lol) and made me registered as to become one of the billions people in this whole wide world to support World Climate Change Campaign. At least this is the way I am showing my concerned to the environment crisis. So, when is your turn? I love my World called Earth!!!

Earth Hour 2009 is Saturday; 8:30–9:30 March 28 2009. Currently, 82 countries and more than 2100 cities are 'committed to Earth Hour 2009', a huge increase from people participating in 35 countries for Earth Hour 2008.

1 billion 'votes' is the stated aim for Earth Hour 2009, in the context of the pivotal 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Earth Hour is an annual international event created by the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund), held on the last Saturday of March, that asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. It was pioneered by WWF Australia and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, and achieved worldwide participation in 2008.

Earth Hour is about taking simple steps everyday that collectively reduce carbon emissions – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

Here are 10 different ways to spend Earth Hour and reduce your carbon footprint:

1. Attend a local Earth Hour event or organise your own by throwing an Earth Hour street party with your neighbours
2. Gather family & friends for a night picnic in your local park and look at the stars
3. Enjoy a family dinner by candlelight
4. Organise a treasure hunt in the dark
5. Take the dog for a night walk
6. Have a candle-lit bath
7. Sit in the dark and share stories
8. Organise a family night playing board games
9. Share a romantic night in with your loved one
10. Upload your ‘on the night’ photos and videos to flickr and YouTube respectively, and then add them to the Earth Hour flickr group and the global YouTube Group.

Earth Hour Executive Director, Andy Ridley, is encouraging people to participate in whatever way they choose and to think beyond the hour.
